Vermicelli Upma

This dish has become our favorite breakfast ever since I learnt how to make it. It is really simple, quick and nutritious (if you want to make it).


Bambino Vermicelli -Roasted – 1cup
Carrots, peeled and sliced – 2
Green Peas – 1/2 cup
Potatoes – 1small, diced
Onion – 1 med, sliced lengthwise
Tomato – 1 med – chopped
Green Chillies – 3-4 sliced
Chana Dal – 2 tbsp
Peanuts – 1/3 cup
Urad Dal – 1tbsp
Kari Patta – 7-8

Take a pan and add some oil
Add some mustard seeds and let them splatter
Add green chillies, kari patta and let them make some noise
Add the chana dal, urad dal and peanuts. Wait till Chana Dal turns a lil brown
Now add Onions and cook them until pinkish
Add carrots, potatoes and peas
Add some salt and garam masala and stir fry the veggies
When the carrot looks cooked, add tomatoes
Cook until mellow and then cover the pan and let the veggies cook a lil under steam.
Now add 2 cups water and some salt.
Let the mixture simmer and then add Vermicelli.
Cook till the water evaporates. Don’t stir too much or you will make a halwa out of it.
